Infinite Mage Chapter 67: The Unseen (6)

Chapter 67: The Unseen (6)

However, moments later, the‍ students began to‍‍ burst into laughter, feeling an inexplicable‌‍ sense of exhilaration rising in their hearts.

“Hahaha!‌ This is a real masterpiece! Yes, you guys did‍‍‌ it!”

“Right!‌ To be honest, I’ve always been‌ interested in this‌ kind of thing!‌ Please organize more‌‌ fun presentations in‌ the future!”

“I haven’t sweated like‌ this in a long time. You‌ guys won! You’re‌‌ the best!”

The‍ teachers were perplexed‍ by the students’‌ sudden change in attitude, but Shirone‍‌ had anticipated this.‍‌ Every rational human‍ being harbors curiosity‍ about the essence‍ of things.

Where‍ do we come from and where are we going?

Perhaps,‍ that is the most important question‍ for humans. And‍ that was exactly‌ why the Supernatural‌ Psychic Science Research‌ Group needed to‍‌ exist.

Alpheas‍ nodded in satisfaction.

“Showing‌‌ the unseen without making it visible.‍‍ Indeed, there was‍ such a method.‌‌ The children have‍ done admirably.”

“Principal,‍‍‍ does that mean you intend to‌ keep the Supernatural Psychic Science Research Group active?”

“Hmm. That’s not for‌ me to decide‌‌ alone. Well, what‍‌ do you say? If anyone has‌ any objections to the students’ arguments, speak now.”

None‌ of the teachers‌‌ stepped forward. Even‌‍ Siena had to keep her mouth‌ shut this time.‌

To‍‌ be honest, it‌ felt like she had been squarely hit by her‌ students. The existence‍‍ of the Supernatural‌‌‌ Psychic Science Research‌‍ Group was a necessity. The hundreds‌ of students gathered‌ here were proof of that.

Thadd‌ raised an objection.‌‌

“But‍‍ what if we‌ find violations of the school rules?‍ Wouldn’t there be considerable backlash? It‌ feels uneasy to‍‌ approve the research‌ group as it is.”

Among‌‌ the teachers, there were quite a few like Siena‍ who had confirmed‍‌ illegal entry into forbidden areas. As‍‌ more people pointed‌ out the same‌‍ issue, an impromptu‌ teachers’ meeting was‍ convened.

Siena was the first‌ to voice her‍ opinion.

“It’s true the students broke the rules. However, I believe‍‌ this is separate‍‍ from the issue‍ of whether the research group should‌ continue to exist.”

The teachers, who had‌‍ been leading the‍ charge to disband‍‍‍ the group just‌ moments ago, looked‌ puzzled at her‍ defense.

But‍‌ Siena thought this was enough. It‌ was their promise‍ to the students.‌ Shirone and his‌‌ group had met‌ their demands, and all she had‌ to do now‍ was acknowledge their‍ achievement.

Apart from the teachers’ discussion, members of‌‌‍ the Shadow Research‍ Group were secretly‌‍‌ conversing in a secluded part of the park.

“They‌ say even a rotten tree can‌‌‍ bear fruit. It’s‍ not over yet.‌ The graduates left behind quite bold‌ successors, didn’t they?”

“There’s‍ no need for‌ a war. The‌ influence of the Psychic Group will continue for a while. Our Ant‌‌‍ Language Research Group won’t intervene.”

“Hmph!‍ They’re just Class‍ Five. They may‌ climb up to the Advanced Class‌ eventually, but by then, I won’t be in this‌‌ school anymore.”

“Isn’t‍ it too early‌ to declare that? If you fail‌ this year, you might end up‍ competing with them‍ next year.”

“What?‍‍ Are you saying I’m running away‌ from those kids‍ in fear?”

“Let’s stop it. It’s‍‌ funny for us,‌ who never cross‍ paths, to be‍ doing this. If‌ you want to‌‍ challenge them, go ahead. Of course,‍‍ our Hide-and-Seek Research‍ Group won’t participate.”‌

“Say‍‍ all you want,‌ but you’ll be‌ watching their every‍ move. You guys‌ would dive into muck to hide,‍‌ wouldn’t you?”

“Enough‌‌ of this. We’re‌ only tarnishing the‍ reputation of our research groups by‌ gathering like this.‍ Let’s leave it‍ here.”

The‍‍‍ leaders of the‍‍‍ school’s underworld agreed‌ to this and‌ headed towards the‍ Advanced Class building. Siena’s brows furrowed as she spotted them moving together.

‘Ugh, those pathetic ones.’

Seeing‍ their faces was now unbearable. They‌‍ had tormented her‌ endlessly, passing from the lower classes‌ to the Advanced Class.

Yet, they were untouchable due to their‍ mischievously hidden talents,‍ granted by the heavens.

‘How many such kids are in this‌ school? This is all because of these ridiculous research‌ groups.’

From‍‍‍ seniors to juniors,‍‍‌ then those juniors‌‍‌ becoming seniors themselves, passing on their ingenious tricks. How‍ could a teacher compete with that?‍‍

That‍‌ was why Siena‍ had wanted to disband the Supernatural Psychic Science Research Group – not out of hatred‌ for Nade and‍‌‌ his group, but to cut off‌ the root of evil.

‘But‍‌ in the end,‍‍ this is how‍ it turned out.’‌

Sighing,‌ Siena pushed through‌ the crowd and‌ shouted towards Shirone and his group standing on the‍ rooftop.

“I’m‌ announcing the result of the teachers’‍ meeting.”

The‍ applause and cheers‍‌ of the students‍ subsided.

“The Supernatural Psychic Science‌ Research Group was‍‍ set to be‍‍‌ disbanded soon. There‍ had been no‍ official activity for a year, and‌ the membership was‍ lacking. However, following‌‍ today’s presentation and‌ discussions among

most‌‌ teachers and Principal‍ Alpheas, it has been decided to‍‍‍ continue the research‍‍ group, represented by Nade and two others, for the time being. However……”

Siena hesitated, then burst‌‍‌ out in frustration. No matter how‍ many times she‌ thought about it, it was infuriating.‌‌ She pointed angrily and shouted.

“You three are on‌ house arrest for a week! A suspension, you idiots!”‌

Hahahaha!‍

The students burst into laughter, clutching their‍ stomachs. The idea‍ to prove the existence of the‍‌ research group was‌‍ brilliant, but they were guilty of‌ installing unauthorized equipment‍‌ in the school.‌

Shirone, Nade, and Yiruki‍ gaped in disbelief,‍‍ then looked at‍ each other. Slowly,‌ the corners of‍‍ their mouths turned‌‍‌ up, and their‍ eyes sparkled with joy.

“We did it! We‍ succeeded!”

“Hahaha! We’ve saved the‍‌ research group!”

Their‌‌ attitude was one‌‌ of complete disregard for the suspension.‍‍ Watching her students hugging each other‌ in excitement, Siena was dumbfounded.

Yet, the students had no regrets. They had given their all, and the result filled them with genuine happiness.‌‍

“Haha!‌ Hey, congratulations! Keep‌ up the good‌ work!”

“Where’s‌ the research room? I’ll visit sometimes!”‍

Students‍‌ offered their congratulations. Among them were Shirone’s avid followers, Mark and Sharelle.‍

“Aaaaaah! Shirone, you’re incredible!‍ I knew from‍‍ the start it‌‍ wouldn’t end like‍ this! You’re always‍‍ one, no, two steps ahead of me!”

“That’s right. Who knew the existence of‌‍ the research group‍‍‍ depended on this‍‌ presentation? Anyway, you‍ did a great‍ job again, didn’t‍ you, Amy?”

Amy, who should have‍ been the happiest‍ at this moment,‌ was unexpectedly sulking.‍‌

“What’s‍ so great about getting suspended? Why do such foolish‍ things? We need‌ to study hard‍‍ and get to the Advanced Class as soon as‌ possible.”

Sharelle‍‌ looked fondly at‌‍ Amy, who was clumsy in expressing her feelings. She‍‍ knew Amy wanted‍ to be in the Advanced Class with Shirone, living‍ the school life‌‌ together.

“But‍‌ isn’t it cool?‍ Of course, I couldn’t do it‍ myself, but everyone‍‌ thinks about it‌‍ at least once. Wanting to surprise the world.”

Sharelle‍‍ looked enviously at‌ Shirone.

Shirone,‌‌ receiving cheers from‍ the students, smiled brightly, without a trace of worry‍‌ on his face.‌‌

A longing emotion filled‍ Amy’s eyes. She‌ knew better than‍ anyone that she‍ wanted to be‍ beside Shirone right now.

But‍ she shook her‍‍ head, as if denying her feelings.‌

‘Right,‍ there’s no time‌‌‌ for this if‌ I want to graduate. I will‍ never look up‌ to you.’

She‍‌ wanted to be‍‍ with Shirone, to‍‍ climb to great‍ heights and laugh‌‌ the happiest laugh in the world.‍ Suppressing these thoughts, Amy turned away.‌

‘So…‌ hurry up and‍ catch up, you‌‍ idiot.’

* * *

4:00‌ AM.

With‌‍ the night staff‍ having left and‍ all students and teachers asleep, it was a deep,‌‌ quiet night.

Shirone‌‍‍ and his group lay in the‌ grass of the‌‌ central park, where‌ the historic presentation‍‍ had taken place,‍ gazing at the‍ stars.

The‌ cheers of the‌ children and the‍‍ bustling noise had‌‌‌ faded away, but‌ their echoes seemed‍ to linger in‌‍ their ears.

Nade spoke in a hoarse voice, “We‌‌ finally did it, all of us.”‍‌‌

“Yeah,‌‍ but I feel‌ a bit sorry‌ for Shirone. It’s‍ his first time‍‌ facing this, isn’t it?” said another.‍

Shirone‍ chuckled. It didn’t bother him at‌‌ all.

“But‍ it was fun, wasn’t it? So‍‌ much fun.”

“Absolutely,‍‌ it was the best. Will we ever experience a day like today again? The cheers of the people‍ still haven’t left‍ me.”

“We‍ three combined our strengths, that’s how‍‍ it should be.‌‌ Anyway, we’ve made new history at‍ Alpheas Magic Academy.”‍

Shirone sat up energetically.‌

“Besides,‍ it’s not all‌ bad. We’ve gained‌‍ a lot. The‍ level of photon‌ output has increased tremendously due to‍‍ this presentation. I think it will‍ even work in the graduation class.”‍

“I feel the same.‍‌ I gained knowledge‌‍ of fiber optics, and above all, experienced the mass‍ production process alone. Honestly, it was‍ a tremendous learning experience. All thanks‍‌ to you guys.”‍‌

“Same here. I’ve gained a lot by‍ applying the behavior‍‌‌ patterns of 400‍ people in practice.‌ If Shirone hadn’t‍ brought in the‌‍ Immortal Function, it‍‍ would have been‌‌ impossible.”

“What are you talking‍ about? You’re the amazing one. Without the behavioral equations of Servant Syndrome,‍ the students would‍ never have been‌‌ deceived.”

“If we’re talking about hard work, Nade‌‍ did a lot too. He installed‌ hundreds of mechanical devices without a single error. That‌ focus is really‌ something.”

Caught‍‌ up in their excitement, Shirone and‌ his friends suddenly‌ fell silent, realizing‍‍ something. A chilly‌‍ wind passed briefly.‍ Nade, who had‌‌ gotten up, lay back down and‍ said,

“Let’s‍ stop. What’s the point of praising‍ each other?”

“Right.‍ We shouldn’t become‍ frogs in a well. It’s natural‍ to enjoy our achievements, but we‌‌ must not become‌ complacent.”

Shirone gazed at the‍‌‍ stars shining like they were about‌ to spill from the sky.

“I‌ want to climb‌ higher. I need‌ to become the‍ brightest star.”

Yiruki‌ shared the same sentiment.

“It seems we’ve done everything we can‌ by lounging around. It’s about time‍‌ to climb up. To the graduation‍ class.”

Nade tumbled and sprang‌ up.

“Alright! Let’s set a new goal! To‌ move up classes as quickly as possible! And to‍ graduate at the same time! Let’s‍ have fun even‌ after entering society!”‍

Shirone‌ and Yiruki nodded‌‌ in agreement.

“Good.‍ Let’s keep running until then.”

“Ha ha ha. I feel motivated for‍ the first time‍‌‍ in a while!”‌‌

The‌‌ three of them brought their hands‌ together and cheered.‍

Someday‌ they would become‍‌ the greatest magicians.‍‍ With that determination,‌ they gazed up‌ at the night‍ sky, their eyes‌ twinkling like stars.‌‌‌

The‌ brightest, solitary star.‌

The‍‌ North Star was‌‍ looking down at‌ them.

Upon‌ returning to the dormitory, Shirone immediately collapsed into sleep.‍ It was regrettable‌‌ to receive a week’s suspension, but‍ the mental and‍‌ physical exhaustion was‌ too overwhelming to dwell on it.‍‌

A day passed just‍‌‍ like that.

The‌ sound of the‍ morning piano and‍ the sun high in the sky‍ had nothing to do with Shirone,‍‌ who was suspended.‌

“Hey.‍ Shirone. Shirone.”

Stirred‌ by someone shaking‌‍ him, Shirone frowned‌‍ and opened his eyes. The blurry‌ figures of two people flickered before‍‍ him, revealing the‍ smiling faces of Nade and Yiruki.‌‍

“Ugh. What?”

“You’re‍‌ amazing. Still sleeping?”‍‍

“I‌‌ don’t know. I’m tired. Please leave.”

“Come‍ on, get up.‌ We can’t attend classes anyway. Let’s go have fun.”‍‍

“Fun?”

“Yiruki‌ knows a casino‌ where they give‍ free drinks and‌‌ there are lots‍‍ of pretty girls.‍ Let’s go make‍‍ the most of‍ it, now that it’s come to this.”

Shirone‌ lost interest the‍ moment he heard‍ ‘casino.’

“Aren’t‍ you guys tired?‌‍ I’m dead tired.”

“We’ve‍ slept all day‍ too. You’ve been‌‍ sleeping for 27‌‍ hours now. Come on, let’s just‍ go for 3 days. With Yiruki’s‍‍‌ Savant Syndrome, making‍ money will be‌ a breeze.”
