Chapter 59: C-31 Unstable Fugitive (2)

My feet left the floor, and my body was helplessly hurled into the air.

Before I could even resist, the chain, which had coiled around me with the fluidity of a snake, abruptly yanked me up toward the ceiling.

Suddenly, a cold mass of metal closed around my neck.

“Kugh!”

Purely on instinct, I reached up with both hands and grabbed the chain digging into my neck, but that grotesque chain, capable of extending indefinitely, exerted a force no human could resist.

Even in the middle of all that, Omniscient Incompetent enthusiastically fluttered his pages while making who knew what words appear.

Flap, flap, flap!

Sentences that might have been encouragement or mockery appeared and disappeared, but with my oxygen cut off and my vision filled with flashes, they were nothing more than blurry images.

“Ghk, khk……!”

With my windpipe blocked and my blood vessels compressed, unbearable pressure threatened to make my head burst as black spots began spreading across my vision.

The chain continued tightening as though it intended to crush the cartilage in my neck.

As the blood flow to my brain was cut off, scorching heat concentrated in my face, and soon afterward, the horrible sensation of all the strength slowly draining from my body completely overwhelmed me.

A harsh, strangled sound escaped from the depths of my lungs.

Flap-flap-flap-flap—!

My feet kicked uselessly through the air, unable to find anything to brace against.

Even amid that chaos, I could hear the frantic turning of pages as something was being written across them, but with the pain making me feel as though my eyes were about to pop out of their sockets, it was impossible to read a single word.

‘The… manual……!’

Clinging to the thread of consciousness that was about to snap, I forced my brain to recall the instructions I had memorized.

The sentences, whether encouragement or commentary, merely flickered like reddish traces before me.

The moment it feels someone watching it, its ability to pass through matter weakens.

I forced my eyes wide open, my capillaries on the verge of bursting, and fought against the force of the chain crushing my neck as I twisted my head and jerked it upward.

Amid the static distorting the space around it, the faded prison uniform it wore fluttered violently.

Only the upper half of its body protruded from the concrete ceiling as it pulled on the chain like a fisherman who had just hooked an enormous catch.

With my eyes bloodshot from ruptured capillaries, I forced myself to keep that horrifying figure within my field of vision.

As I burned its silhouette into my retinas through my red-tinted vision, the static coursing across its body began to visibly diminish.

It opened its lipless mouth and unleashed a silent scream as it pulled even harder on the chain.

“―――!”

Its incorporeal body, which until then had remained embedded beyond the ceiling, gradually became more solid until, unable to withstand its own physical weight, it began to fall little by little.

The force of the chain slackened slightly.

“Haa…… Huu……”

At my hoarse voice, Assistant Manager Son wiggled the fingers on his head and answered.

As though he had instinctively sensed a threat, he began violently swinging the chain attached to his wrist despite still spilling black blood.
