Chapter 65: A New Path 5
Santa’s Rest Stop.
The glass gradually filled, and the gentle ripples forming on the water’s surface reflected the surrounding scenery.
Ash opened a package of purified water and began slowly pouring out its contents.
The clear water fell into a carefully cleaned crystal glass, above which floated a holographic note that read [Do Not Drink].

Before a simple altar upon which rested a glass of water, Ash bowed deeply.
“Heavenly spirits and ancestors who rest upon Mount Gonryun……”
The room that Ash and Akina were currently using as their accommodations.
The second-floor storage room.

After finishing his greeting in a low voice, Ash immediately raised his head and began searching through his belongings.
A moment later, his steel hand retrieved five completely new Pathfinder licenses, without the slightest sign of use.
[ANNA BLADE]
His electronic voice echoed through the silent room.

Several days had already passed since Siren had adopted the name “Anna Blade.”
[RETO BLADE]

Upon seeing how genuinely happy she was, to the point of shedding a few tears, Ash had decided to regard the entire matter of the surname “Blade” as a simple, insignificant incident.
Although her unexpected decision had caused something of an uproar at the rest stop, things soon returned to normal, and everyone continued devoting themselves intensely to their training.
Anna had finally managed to receive Ash’s teachings on the Neuro Heart Technique, just as she had so desperately wished.

However, the real incident came afterward.
Therefore, they needed to apply for them in order to begin carrying out official activities in the future.
After all, if he was willing to accept it, there was no particularly serious problem.
Zero and his younger siblings, who had originally been Ninjas from Underland, did not possess Pathfinder licenses.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
That very same day, the licenses they had applied for were issued and sent to the rest stop.
From the moment Ash received them, he had shut himself inside the second-floor storage room.
And so, the Ninjas went to the Central Hub on their own.
His turquoise optical sensors scanned the letters “BLADE,” which seemed to stand out with particularly irritating clarity.

One person was not a problem.
Or simply an incident caused by that peculiar obsession of hers.
However.
If it were only Anna, he could consider it a coincidence.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
Ash gazed at the five licenses and let out another deep sigh.
Was it not an entirely different matter when every member of the team, with the exception of the Technomancer, shared exactly the same surname?
‘In this world, surnames come after given names. accent Then does that mean we all share the same surname? airport In that case…… should I interpret it as a martial family?’
Ash shook his head.

‘Or should I understand it according to the customs I know? album For example…… as a system of generations within a sect? amber No! august What the hell am I thinking?!’

He shook his head even more vigorously.

The woman who could be considered primarily responsible for this entire disaster.
How was he supposed to interpret such a situation correctly?
As his thoughts continued going in circles, a face suddenly appeared in his mind.
Ifrit.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
A message appeared over his optical sensors.
“……That damned woman!”
For some reason, even in his memories, she appeared with that irritatingly mischievous smile and her glowing, heart-shaped eyes.
Unable to contain his growing indignation, Ash immediately activated his integrated communications module.

However, no one answered.
[CALLER ID: IFRIT]
The call began connecting.

Ash ended the call.
Now that he thought about it, getting angry at Ifrit was rather absurd as well.
“……”

Ash gazed at the licenses once more and, as his optical sensors flickered, summarized that completely absurd situation in a single sentence.
In the end, everything returned to square one.
After all, she probably did not even understand the implications of what she had suggested.

Just then, the door opened.
“……How the hell am I supposed to put this mess in order?”
Creak.
The old door creaked, and a small figure entered the room.

Ash instinctively shifted his body to cover the glass of water resting on the altar with one hand. Visit indratranslations.com for more free chapters and updates.
It was Akina.
Upon seeing that reaction, Akina burst into laughter.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
“……Did you not say exactly the same thing last time before drinking it?”
“It’s just that your reaction was so funny I couldn’t help myself. orbit But I’m serious this time, so you can trust me.”
“Oh, come on! acquire I already told you I didn’t know what I was doing that time! arrow I’m not going to drink it. action I really won’t.”
Akina dropped onto the edge of her bed and looked at what Ash was holding in his hands.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
“It is not a matter of whether I like it or dislike it.”
“Does it bother you that much that the others are using the same surname as you?”
Ash turned his head toward Akina.
“A name represents a person’s roots and identity. apron It is the path they have traveled, the sign indicating where they must go, and, on occasion, even the destiny they are obliged to carry upon their shoulders. album It does not exist merely to make it convenient to address someone. harbor Are there not rules and traditions that must be respected? arrow And all the more so when it concerns people who follow the teachings of the same sect!”

The girl continued speaking.
“Hehehe. attic The truth is, I don’t really understand all those complicated concepts.”
Faced with that torrent of words, Akina absentmindedly scratched one cheek.
Then she blinked a couple of times and gave a shy smile.

“But you know something? athlete I actually like it.”
“……You like it? arena For what reason?”
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
“Don’t you think they all did that because they genuinely want to become your companions?”
Akina’s voice echoed through the silent room.
“……!”
“Simply…… because I think they’re doing it from the heart?”
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
“In a way, you were the first person who offered us a place to belong. apron Don’t you think they did that because they all want to be part of it and make sure that bond becomes stronger? shadow Because they want to feel connected, to feel that they belong somewhere. agent After all, those things are very hard to find in Sanctum.”
Akina sprang up from the bed and sat beside Ash.
“Think about it. matrix We were all people wandering around without any direction, weren’t we? antenna I was like that too, just like the Ninjas. harbor Anna is a bit of a special case, but…… well.”
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
“……My.”
‘How did it not occur to me to think of that?’

However, Akina’s words had just shaken those foundations to their roots.
Those were the rules of the world in which Ash had lived, the very foundations upon which his identity had been built.
Until that moment, Ash had judged Anna’s and the Ninjas’ actions solely according to his own standards, that is, the traditions and formalities of his previous world.

They simply wished to establish a deeper bond.
However, the true essence of their actions was completely different.
He had considered adopting his surname to be disrespectful behavior, a way of treating their master’s name lightly and disrupting the foundations of his sect.
For the first time in their lives, they had found a teacher, a leader, and an adult who could guide them, and all they wanted was to become part of that circle.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
In reality, the only one who had misinterpreted the situation and allowed his prejudices to confuse him had been Ash himself.
The way they had expressed it might have been clumsy and even somewhat strange.
‘How ridiculous.’
However, the feelings behind their actions were completely sincere and pure.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
Slowly, he turned his head toward Akina.
That small revelation made Ash feel deeply ashamed.
And yet, he had ended up trapped by a formality as insignificant as a surname, unable to understand the true feelings of his companions.
He had declared before the spirits of his ancestors that he would abandon conventions and break with traditions.
Translation of Cyberpunk Chivalry - Chapter 65: A New Path 5 by Indra Translations.
“I have been a fool. voyage If I declared that I would break with tradition, then it was only right that I should be the first to change.”
“Hehehe. album Aren’t I?”
Ash carefully put away the licenses he held in his hands.
“As I thought, Miss Akina is truly a genius. amber The most brilliant of all the people I have ever known.”

“What do you need?”

Standing before her were Anna, Zero, and all the others, motionless as statues, with expressions of obvious unease.
The girl stood up and threw the storage room door wide open.

Ash observed them for a few moments before turning his head toward Akina.
“Miss Akina. ability Were they the ones who asked you to come and speak with me?”
Their faces reflected concern for Ash and a certain guilt over having changed their surnames without consulting him beforehand.

Akina smiled shyly.
“Quite.”
“Was it that obvious?”

“However……”
A faint laugh escaped Ash’s voice module.
“Hehehe.”

“This place is too small. shadow Let us go to the training ground. apple I have something to tell you.”
Ash stood up and addressed everyone.
“It was exactly what I needed.”

At those words, everyone who had gathered in the second-floor storage room headed to the backyard together.
It was rather strange.
And when they finally left the room.
Another small ripple appeared on the surface of the water in the glass resting on the altar.

“Originally, my intention was to become your master and pass on the teachings of Gonryun under strict discipline. atom However, it was not because I wished to do things that way. autumn It was simply the only way of teaching I knew.”
“But now I have changed my mind. armor Let us try to grow closer to one another without so many formalities. admire I do not know whether this will be the correct path, but I am certain it will not be the wrong one, either. abandon After all, what truly matters is not formality.”
And standing before them was Ash.

“After all, we are a team, are we not? timber We are neither a martial arts sect nor a family clan, but a team of Pathfinders. attic From now on, we shall have to support one another to overcome the difficulties awaiting us and the cruelty of Sanctum. matrix And we shall do so in our own way, without following anyone else’s rules.”
He adjusted his grip on his sword.
After speaking those words, Ash drew his steel Blade and walked toward the center of the training ground.

“I shall be your master. audit But I shall also be your brother and your companion.”
It was practically an oath deeper than any bond of blood.

“And speaking of that, I have been thinking about something. amateur If we are a team, do you not think we should at least have a name?”
The last disciple of Gonryun was abandoning the rules of his previous world and promising to live in this world of steel alongside the new people whom fate had brought together with him.
After those brief words, Ash began moving slowly.

“Mr. avalanche Ash.”

“……Well, the plural is spelled with an ‘S,’ not a ‘Z.’”
The solemn atmosphere that had begun to form shattered in an instant.
The laughter resonating from his voice module was extraordinarily clear and light.
However, Ash merely let out a carefree laugh.

“I know.”
Ash lowered his head and gazed at that ‘Z.’
